Humber Print Press Ready Artwork Guidelines

In order to ensure the finished printed product is of the highest standard, we much insist that all press ready artwork complies with the following guidelines:

• All Files must be supplied in a Mac compatible format. Preferred file types are; adobe illustrator (.ai) adobe in-design, Esko Graphics, .eps or .pdf files.
• Microsoft Word and Publisher files are not suitable for professional reprographic use.
• Some other formats may be usable in some cases; please check with our office before sending.

Line work

• Minimum positive text is 5pt for san serif, 6pt for serif
• Minimum reversed text size is 5pt for san serif, 6pt for serif.
• Minimum positive line weight is 1.0pt
• Minimum reversed line weight is 1.5pt
• If the design contains text, then this should either be outlined or have the fonts supplied.
• Tints must be within the range of 1% to 90% to avoid ink “breaking up” or “filling in”.
• Where different colours meet the grip should be 1.5mm where ever possible.
• Where colours run to the edge of the label 3mm bleed must be added.
• Placed colour or greyscale images must have a minimum resolution of 300 PPI at same size.

Process / screen work

For this type of work, please ensure that your artwork complies with the above line work rules as well as the following criteria:
• A minimum dot size is 1% for all colours.
• Maximum dot size depends on the colour, lighter colours will hold up to 90%, darker colours up to 85%, and screens heavier than this may start to fill in or appear solid

In all cases

Screen and tint angles will be set at the plate making stage.
Screen ruling will also be set at plate stage and will range from 133 to 150 LPI depending upon the design.

Plate ready artwork

If artwork supplied is stated to be ready for Flexographic printing plates or Flexo printing, then no responsibility will be held for any inherent errors.

Digital print requirements

Humber Print & Packaging prides itself on high quality printed solutions, which is why all digital print read artwork must meet the following criteria:
• Supplied as a high resolution PDF document (NO scans or jpegs)
• All images and graphics are embedded
• All fonts need to be converted to outlines
• Files need to be supplied at the cutter size required plus 2mm for bleed on each side… for example a 100x100mm label would need to be supplied as 104x104mm to account for the bleed on the artwork
• All printer marks and crop marks need to be removed
• All files need to be supplied in CMYK, NOT RGB
• All pantone references need to be supplied with the file
• All files need to be thoroughly checked for spelling and grammar errors
• Each file needs to be a separate PDF
• Minimum resolution is 600dpi
